August 29, 2024#Inclusion,!!
Inclusion refers to the practice of creating an environment where all individuals are valued, respected, and provided with equal opportunities to participate and contribute. It’s about embracing diversity and ensuring everyone has a seat at the table. However, common words like “inclusion” can mean different things to different people.
For me, #Inclusion looks like this—for special needs children and young adults.
One of the most rewarding ways we practice inclusion is through activities that foster growth and connection. For #Abdulhakim, it’s a learning opportunity to aid in his fine motor skills, patience, resilience, and to spend quality time bonding. On a sunny Sunday morning, we embark on a simple yet meaningful task—shelling peas!
This activity isn’t just about the peas; it’s about engaging in an activity that supports his development while also spending cherished moments together. It’s these small, inclusive practices that make a significant difference in his life.

In Kiswahili, we say: Tuwashirikishe, Tuwadhamini, wakiwezeshwa wao pia wana mchango katika jamii! This translates to: Let’s include them, value them, and empower them because they too have a contribution to make to society!
